Landscaping
As many of you know already, we are starting our landscaping revitalization project on May 19th. We will begin with our common beds, then finish with the entry area, (aside from the area in front of the monuments, which is on hold until the 6' wall by SIX88 has been put up). Of note, it's been interesting to see how many trees/shrubs have now come back to life, after the devastation our community suffered from the hurricanes! Things we initially thought may not make it, have re-flourished!
New Garbage Can
Given SIX88 has completed their exterior build, and the crane has now been removed, we have now placed the new custom garbage can in front of their building. Many thanks to Mark Williams Construction who paid to have the original damaged can replaced.
Street Cleaning
The GGPA has been working with the general contractors (GC's) to vacuum sweep our road on a regular basis. The street was vacuum swept once in April. We are evaluating the results of this cleaning to determine the effectiveness and frequency.
Street Parking Update
PROGRESS MADE.......GGPA working together with the general contractors (GC's) actively operating within our community have implemented a plan to reduce the number of construction workers utilizing the limited street parking available on Golden Gate Point. All workers associated with construction at the Owen will be parking in the 550 construction parking lot. The subcontractors currently working at the SIX88 and the the Peninsula have been instructed to park at the Van Wezel parking lot. These subcontractors will be paying the city $50.00 per car per month and will be shuttling the workers by van to the job site. The initial phase of this plan started on May 9th and already parking is opening up. As more subcontractors abide by this plan we should see more street parking available during the day. GGPA will proactively be working with the GC's to insure that as the building projects work through their phases, the new subcontractors will be instructed to abide by the plan. We hope this plan sets a precedence for all new projects on Golden Gate Point.
The Aqua Blue Lighting of the Ringling Bridge is Back
As a result of a grassroots effort, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) agreed to restore the aqua blue lighting of the Ringling Bridge on a nightly basis. The Red, White and Blue colors will be displayed on the bridge on our national holidays. No other commemorative color patterns will be utilized. The positive outcome would not have been possible without the collective effort of our community and the support of our local politicians.
