Board Meeting Minutes Sept 20, 2008 Present: Board Members: Beverley Albertson, John Dent, Martha Luciani, and Denise Watermeier. Building Captains: Cathy Antunes, Pat Hooley, and Brent Parker. Treasurer’s Report: Pat Hooley reported no activity in the checking account since the August report. The GGP Improvement MM Account balance totaled $14,814.99 as of 9/20/08. Upon completion of the Streetscape Project, Brent anticipates having a sufficient surplus in the City’s Streetscape account to be able to repay the cash contributions (principal amounts) donated by a number of GGP residents and developers at the project’s startup several years ago. Minutes: The minutes of May 17, 2008 were approved; the minutes of August 16, 2008 were amended to include Beverly Albertson’s attendance, and then approved. Streetscape Project: There was discussion regarding a resident’s inquiry why Royal Palms are not included in the landscaping design since the Streetscape Project is intended to match the landscaping on the Ritz Carlton property. Brent stated that Royal Palms are typically not hardy enough to survive long term this far north in Florida. The groundbreaking ceremony was held immediately following the board meeting. Invited guests included Mitch McKnight and Ferdie Barnard, engineers, Wilson Miller; Phil Smith landscape architect, David Johnston and Assoc; Richard Clapp City Commissioner; Dale Haas City public works director; Lou Ann Palmer Mayor of Sarasota; Ken Shelin Vice-Mayor; Rolf Brautigam, contractor, Woodruff and Sons; Alex Davis-Shaw city engineer. The Pelican Press and Sarasota Observer reported on the event. The construction schedule will consist of four ten-hour days with no construction Friday through Sunday. Brent Parker has scheduled bi-monthly meetings with the Project Manager for 9AM at the Phoenix on alternate Tuesdays. A schedule will be posted on the GGP website. Park Proposal: John will update the status at the October meeting. Standing CommitteesCoalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA): There was discussion regarding the letter from CCNA indicating that GGP would not be able to remain a voting member of both CCNA and Downtown Sarasota Condominium Association (DSCA). This was viewed as giving GGP “two votes” at CCNA meetings. The board elected to remain a voting member of CCNA because GGP comprises a mix of residences. This would allow individual condos to join DSCA. Denise will communicate our position to CCNA. Denise will follow-up with Carol Kopeck regarding the inclusion of ads in the newsletter (print and web versions). CMinutes respectfully submitted by Marth Liciani |
